Mizuka

Mizuka is a fill up ground for residence seen in lowlands subject to recurring floods along the Arakawa river and the Tone River. It is so built as to prevent flood damage. In some cases, only Dozō (storehouse) was built on an elevated area. Trees including cedar, zelkova or holly are planted surrounding Mizuka to protect Dozō from strong winds.
