Leaf-Raking

Main fertilizer was human manure or compost, both are self-sufficient, rather than purchased fertilizer such as rice bran or dried sardine. Compost was prepared from fallen leaves from wooded area called “Yama”. Leaf-Raking was a hard and important work for Nogata villages in the vicinity of wooded area. Satogata villages retain their own Magusaba (common area for mowing) in the Nogata zone to obtain material for fertilizer or so.
